It was found that the pH control during catalyst preparation affected significantly the properties of Mo-V-W-Cu oxide catalysts for selective oxidation of acrolein to acrylic acid. An optimum pH value was observed at pH=5 where the catalytic activity and selectivity as well as BET surface area were the highest. Results of TPD of acrolein indicate that the relative distribution of active sites differing in reactivity and adsorption strength appears to correlate with the catalytic performance. SEM, XRD and TPD results suggest that the catalyst surface properties be affected by pH control during the catalyst preparation.
