The behavior of plutonium with regard to redox and chemical properties is of interest because of (amongst other issues) the presence of plutonium in spent nuclear fuel. If placed in a deep geological repository, the consequences of leakage need to be properly assessed. This includes investigations of the sorption behavior of dissolved waste constituents, such as plutonium.
