Combinatorial chemistry has had an enormous impact on drug discovery research in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries recently, and it is now being extended to the discovery of new catalysts by NMR, IR and GC based techniques. On the other hand, it is well known that chemical indicators are very simple and convenient for detection of chemical reactions. For example, methyl orange is a general indicator for acid-base titration. Here we show high-throughput color-screening of heterogeneous catalytic reactions by chemical indicators including mehtyl orange and FeCl_3 in esterification and Beckman rearrangement over zeolite catalysts.
