Cobalt-Chromium is widely used for body implants and is particularly famous for denture prosthesis due to its particular material properties such as high wear resistance, strength and biocompatibility. On the other hand this material is also notorious as a difficult to machine material. This paper intends to present one of the very first studies on high speed machining of cobalt-chromium alloy. Moreover, it also reports on one of first studies on the effect of cryogenic cooling on the machinability of dental grade cobalt-chromium alloy as compared to dry and wet machining. The experimental investigation revealed that cryogenic cooling has a potential to significantly improve surface roughness (up to a 72% reduction) in end milling operations without increasing the power consumption of machine tool.
