摘要

The thermomechanically coupled FE model of ultrasonically assisted turning is developed. The model accounts for temperature-dependent material properties, strain-rate sensitivity, heat generation due to plastic deformation and friction at the cutter/workpiece interface. Material separation in front of the cutting edge and automatic remeshing of distorted elements are implemented in the computational scheme. Differences between ultrasonic and conventional turning in terms of thermal and deformation processes, as well as the comparison between experimental and numerical results are presented.
