Effectiveness of Internet Resources for EHS Information, Technology, and Exchange

The Internet offers a wealth of information on every topic imaginable. For EH&S professionals, Internet provides a forum for research and exchange that reaches to all corners of the globe. However, this unbounded source of information and data is not without its difficulties, including the need to identify valuable information from the deluge of sites available on any topic. This paper provides insight into the best and the worst of applied EH&S information and resources on the Internet. Links are provided to the lesser-known but valuable on-line resources for data sources, modeling, public communications, and publications. Techniques are discussed for effectively evaluating the strengths of specific Internet data sources, while identifying weaknesses and avoiding any site's limitations. This paper concludes with a discussion of the implications of Internet technologies for the future of EH&S professionals.
