Cryogenic tempering: where do we go from here?

A new technology called cryogenic tempering is discussed. Cryogenic tempering is a process in which a metal is quenched in liquid nitrogen at -300℉ (-149°C) after heat treatment. This treatment improves the mechanical properties of the metal. Capital equipment and operating costs are compared to conventional heat-treating operations. This technology produces metal products that wear longer, stay sharp longer and reduce the use of mineral resources. Also, it is environmentally friendly.
