Applied clinical nutrition: clinically effective protocols

Nutrition is the foundation of all health. Nutritional requirements in health and disease vary significantly. Disease alters the body's nutritional requirements, and the holistic practitioner needs to be aware of this to assist in healing. Unfortunately, this is a complex area and much of which remains only speculative. To further complicate the issue, there is a myriad of products available and the claims as to their potential uses multifarious. This paper will attempt to clear away some of the confusion by categorizing the types of nutritional therapies available, the scientific basis behind many of them and how the clinician might apply them in daily practice. Clinical nutrition can be effective in helping heal many of the chronic diseases veterinarians deal with on a daily basis. Although scientific documentation for many of the commonly used therapies is lacking, there is a growing body of information with showing me effectiveness of these Nutraceutical therapies. Nutrition has often been categorized as the cornerstone of health maintenance. More recently, there is a growing body of information showing that nutrition can go beyond health maintenance and effectively treat many diseases.
