The schedule for the modernization was very tight. The time from the awarding of the contract to the start-up the furnace was eleven months only. After a shutdown of eighty-six days the furnace was back in operation a on its new campaign. Since firing, the blast furnace has been in stable operation. The ramp-up curve toward the scheduled hot me production is on target. The production planning calls for the melting of 35 million tons of hot metal over t next 15 years. Especially the SIMELT Automation process control system was performing flawlessly from the start. The easy handling and the valuable data provided by the process control system resulted in many requests for additional access points to the system from management, operation, and maintenance personnel. Therefore the installation of a web-server is planned in addition to the existing operator stations. For security reasons, the access will be password protected and no operational actions are possible. But this web-server will allow access to screens and data of the process control system with a standard web browser from any PC connected to the Intranet of the plant. With this HKM will take one more important step further into the IT world.
