A new technology, utilizing automatic high pressure injection of solid wax, is currently being used to produce premium quality patterns for both small and large parts. The process uses conventional tools and is suited for both high and low quantity production. The resulting patterns are without shrink, dish, flow lines, and other discontinuities. The cost savings are significant. If we look at the history of wax injection, we note that a similar technology was employed many years ago with the Ebert billet injection machine. This early process had a number of problems such as air entrapment and a high cost of billet preparation and subsequent handling. The new technology is automatic, eliminates the air entrapment problems, and is so productive that an affordable system of automation had to be developed to take full advantage of the very rapid cycle times.
