This paper concerns the application of Air Liquide America's patented SPAL process: cryogenic liquid argon inert blanketing on nickel-boron and nickel-aluminide alloy systems that are produced as investment castings by Franklin Bronze and Alloy Co., Incorporated. The tests were conducted in order to afford cost reducing improvements on process parameters, and metal matrix enhancements of these nickel alloys. Test procedures, test results, and production parameters are reviewed in reference to the nickel alloy systems, as well as overall results to the foundry-wide applications of SPAL at Franklin Bronze and Alloy Co., Incorporated.
