In this paper, the current conditions of energy saving and the techniques of energy saving in pneumatic systems will be explained, and the calculation tools for the purpose of energy saving designing will be introduced. As the overview of pneumatic energy saving, firstly, the current conditions of energy saving in pneumatic system which includes the energy saving focus and approaches, the energy saving objects and measures as well as the energy saving effect and the evaluation technique, are introduced according to the recent investigation results on energy saving activities of pneumatic system in the factories of the Japan whole country. Next, for each portion of pneumatic system such as air source, piping system, air blow system and actuator driving system, the technical subjects in designing them and the optimization means for solving these subjects are explained. Moreover, as to the calculation tools of pneumatic energy saving, two softwares named "Pneumatic Model Selection Program" and "Pneumatic Energy Saving Program" are introduced.
