Hydrostatic closed loop propel drives have been used very successfully in various types of off road machinery for a long time. In combination with effective gear box solutions and intelligent electronic controls their use can be expanded and provide new solutions for machine designers. The challenges of Tier 4 Final engine regulations as well as increased performance demands from the market can be met with three propel drive options: 1.) Shift on Fly (SoF) propel drives with a two-stage axle gear box 2.) Hydrostat systems using two hydraulic drive motors with a summation gearbox (2+1 system) 3.) Continuously variable transmissions with parallel path power splitting (CVT).
