COUPLED PRE-FORMING/INJECTION SIMULATIONS OF LIQUID COMPOSITE MOLDING PROCESSES

A method to improve the accuracy of the RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) injection numerical simulation is presented. The idea is to perform first a draping analysis of the preform. Then, the results are used in models giving permeability as a function of the deformation. Finally, the injection simulation is performed using the computed permeability field. An example is reported where this method is applied. The method raises three issues: the draping simulation, the permeability model, the injection simulation. This paper focuses on the draping simulation. The various methods to predict the fiber reorientation are presented and discussed. One example related to Non Crimp fabrics (NCF) is reported.
