Solid investment moulding is a versatile process for preparation of magnesium prototypes. The casting of complex shapes with thin walls and few defects requires a good knowledge of process parameters. In this work, experiments have been performed on pure magnesium and AZ91 alloys to determine the influence of various parameters such as mould temperature, vacuum assistance, and alloys composition on filling capacity, flowability, microstructure of castings and surface finish.
