The production of L-Glutamic acid has been studied using coimmobilized whole cells of pseudomonas reptilivora and micrococcus glutamicus in a two litre Tokyo Rikakikai fermentor using glucose as selected production medium. The process was carried out at an optimum temperature of 32 degree Celsius and a pH of 7.2. The progress of the reaction was recorded using Dr. Ingold fluorosensor. The effect of initial substrate concentration, speed of agitation, volume of calcium alginate beads and aeration rate on the yield of glutamic acid has been investigated. It has been found that the acid production increases exponentially with substrate concentration, and mass transfer co-efficient varied linearly with aeration rate. The kinetic parameters also had been estimated.
