Surgical Complications and Acute Rejection May Play Some Roles in the Prognoses of Renal Transplantation Patients

To find the relationship between the prognoses of transplanted kidney and surgical complications or acute rejection, we analyzed renal transplant patients' clinical data in detail. In the period of November 1997 to May 2006, 25 living and 4 cadaveric renal transplantations were performed in Iwate Medical University. This retrospective study was performed on all the 29 patients. The relationship of renal transplant patients' clinical data to surgical complications or acute rejection is examined in detail. Operations were repeated on two patients due to surgical complications. On the other hand, one patient was observed with a hematoma after protocol graft biopsy and another three patients had acute rejection diagnosed by renal biopsy and are controlled with steroid pulse therapy without graft damage. The surgical complications and acute rejection may be related to renal transplant patient's prognosis. However, with appropriate and timely treatments, the graft should have longer survival rate.
