In the early wean-finish phase, bacterial pathogens like Streptococcus suis and Haemophilus parasuis can cause significant morbidity and mortality.1 Industry practice is to control respiratory disease in young, growing pigs with an antibiotic treatment at weaning. The objectives of this study were to determine the effectiveness of using an antibiotic at weaning to control respiratory disease in the early wean-finish phase and to compare two antibiotics, ceft-iofur and enrofloxacin, on early wean-finish health.
