Continuing pressure to reduce the use of antibiotics (AB) in animal feed through legislation and growing public pressure has caused the swine industry to discover and evaluate new feed additives, feeding programs, and management practices to support animal growth and health of pigs raised without the of use antibiotics (Raised without Antibiotics, RWA). Addition of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA), acidifiers, prebiotics, probi-otics, and botanicals to swine diets have all been considered as options to support the immune system. Previous research with a commercial blend of MCFA, functional plant components, and acidifiers (OutPace~R Feed Additive [OutPace~R FA]; PMI Nutritional Additives) has demonstrated effectiveness in optimizing performance of nursery pigs raised without antibiotics.' Lucrafit5 Feed (LucraFit~R F; Purina Animal Nutrition) is designed as a lactose-free feed for nursery pigs, which allows producers to reduce feed costs while maintaining or improving pig performance throughout thenursery period.
