Clinical, diagnostic and research perspectives on a 'new' mystery swine disease

Reproductive failure is an economically significant problem in swine industry throughout the world. Furthermore, sow mortality cause significant economic hardship to producers and is being actively investigated for both economic and welfare concerns.Since at least 1995, pork producers and swine practitioners have reported disease outbreaks characterized principally by early infertility and/or neurological disorder leading to death. This report is to summarize clinical and diagnostic observations ofthe disease.
