On farm collection of virtual images for improving diagnostic accuracy and developing more precise intervention programs

The diagnosis or cause of mortality that is recorded when on-farm workers perform necropsies in modern swine production units is often inaccurate. Previous studies have shown that necropsies by trained personnel with veterinary knowledge can substantially increase accuracy in determining the cause of mortality by the use of necropsy rather than from clinical signs alone. However, it is seldom practical for personnel with veterinary knowledge to necropsy every pig. The objective of this project is toimprove a previously developed prototype of a standardized training and digital images collection protocol for farm workers to assemble information. The accumulated information will subsequently be reviewed by the farm's attending veterinarian to improvediagnostic accuracy and develop more precise intervention plans.
