The most important things a swine veterinarian should know about providing diagnostic services to compete in the 'new global' economy

Like it or not, we are now operating in a meritocracy where, in my view, the winners will be those who provide the best science. Thus, I thought it would be a useful exercise to role-play by pretending that I was approached by a group of producers whoasked me to help them select a veterinary practice to provide their diagnostic services. What are some of the criteria I would use to rank the veterinary practices from a laboratory director's and pathologist's point of view? My hope is that a thought provoking presentation and discussion will encourage you to continually evaluate and address your strengths and weakness in diagnostic medicine because by doing so you will remain a vitally important member of the swine industry "team."
