Timing of post-insemination movement of sows into loose-sow gestation housing and its subsequent effects on reproductive efficiency

Loose-sow gestation housing has recently increased in popularity for reasons including consumer/advocacy demand, legislative action, and ease of management. However, according to both professionals and practitioners in the field, not all lines of hogscan readily make the switch to this type of housing. Many factors can play a role in the ability of certain lines to successfully make the move toward loose-sow housing, including sow aggression and structural solidity, as well as managerial decisions further enhancing the effects these factors may play.
