摘要

Salmonellosis is a prevalent disease in both swine and humans. During 1998-2002, Salmonella represented the most commonly reported bacterial cause of food-borne outbreaks. One challenge for identifying Salmonella with on-farm control methods is cost-effective diagnostics. A cost-effective rope technique has been described to determine Salmonella status in cattle feed-lots. Translating this technique to swine farms would provide a diagnostic method that a producer could perform, sending samples to diagnostic laboratories without a veterinarian's visit to the farm. If effective, rope cultures would be a less costly and more efficient method for farmers to monitor their herds for Salmonella.
