Field safety evaluation of FluSure /FarrowSure GOLD B in pregnant sows and gilts and in ore-breeding gilts

Pfizer Animal Health's FarrowSure Plus line of pre-breeding vaccines has been re-formulated from a 5 mL to a 2 mL dose. Field safety studies were conducted at three farm sites to fulfill, in part, the requirements for licensure of the combination vaccine FluSure/Farrow-Sure GOLD B (Parvovirus-Swine Influenza Vaccine, H1N1 and H3N2, Killed Vims, Erysipelothrix Rhusio-pathiae-Leptospira Bratislava-Canicola-Grippotyphosa-Hardjo-Icterohaemorrhagiae-Pomona Bacterin) and the lesser combination FluSure/FarrowSure GOLD. The studies were conducted to evaluate local and systemic reactions following vaccination of pre-breeding gilts (one farm site) and pregnant sows/gilts vaccinated 2 to 4 weeks pre-farrowing (two farm sites). At the pre-far-rowing sites, additional parity-matched sows/gilts were injected with 2 mL of sterile saline as negative (placebo) controls. Post-vaccination events were monitored at all sites and reproductive data (abortions, number of piglets born alive, stillborn, or mummies) were collected at the pre-farrowing sites in order to support a label claim that the products are safe for vaccination of healthy breeding swine, including pregnant sows and gilts.
