摘要

Swine influenza virus (SIV) is an influenza A virus of the family Orthomyxoviridae. The virus subtypes most commonly seen in swine are H1N1, H1N2, and H3N2.1 H1N1 SIV was the predominant strain in the U.S. until 1998, when H3N2 first appeared.2 SIV causes a respiratory disease in all ages of pigs characterized by a bronchointerstitial pneumonia with acute onset of fever, cough, lethargy, dyspnea, and nasal discharge.1 SIV is a very important respiratory virus in swine because it most often spreads throughout the herd, has the potential to reassert, and has zoonotic potential. Today, SIV is most often a concern for nursery and finishing pigs. Therefore, interventions such as vaccination are vital for developing immunity against SIV in the piglet.
