The supplementation of dairy rations with blends of soluble sugars has increased in frequency as more research trial data is published in scientific journals and symposia proceedings. The objective of this paper is to address the following questions.1. Do sugars and molasses based liquid supplements depress ruminal pH and fiber digestion? 2. Can the production of VFA and microbial protein from ruminal fermentation be increased by the substitution of sugar or molasses for starches in dairy rations? 3. When is it profitable to add soluble sugars from liquid feeds into dairy rations?
