摘要

This paper discusses a wide variety of techniques used in developing a lively program of free short courses at the National Institutes of Health. In 1989, the Computer Training Program offered 44 subjects attended by fewer than 1800 students. In 2001, 170 different subjects were offered, attended by 7884 students. Since no one pays to attend, costs must be kept to an absolute minimum. The majority of the instructors arc volunteers from a wide variety of sources. In addition to offering many practical tips and techniques, the presentation will inspire those attending with a vision of how a computer training program tuned to the needs of an organization can be created by drawing primarily on existing internal resources.
