Hydrogel mesh size was determined from NMR relaxation measurements of gel polymer protons. The release rates of lysozyme, bovine serum albumin and β-galactosidase from cross-linked dextran and gelatin hydrogels could be predicted according to a mathematical model reported by Ogston using the hydrogel mesh size determined by NMR measurements.
