摘要

Republic of Korea had been free from Foot-and Mouth Disease (FMD) for 66 years until FMD outbreaks were reported in 2000. FMD is a viral disease of cloven-hoofed animals. The disease is characterized by the formation of vesicles and erosion in the mouth, nose, teats, and feet. Although mortality is not high in adult animals, it causes serious production losses and is a major restriction in international trade. During the Korean outbreak, clinical signs and lesions were largely observed in dairy cattle. A study was conducted to determine the susceptibility of swine to Korean foot -and -mouth disease virus (FMDV/O_1, /Kor/ Chungju) in April 2000 because no outbreaks of FMD were reported in pigs despite severe lesions being shown in cows around pig farms
