摘要

The majority of epidemiological studies involving Haemophilus parasuis are based on serotyping. These studies have shown that H. parasuis serovars 4 and 5 are the most prevalent isolates recovered from field cases in Japan, Germany, United States andSpain. However, all studies report a high percentage of non-typable H. parasuis isolates, which ranges from 15.2% to 41%. Recently, a molecular-based technique known as repetitive element based-PCR (Rep-PCR) has been successfully used to characterize thediversity of H. parasuis isolates and the epidemiology of H. parasuis infections within and between herds. This technique can be used to characterize and compare all H. parasuis isolates, including non-typable strains. Characterization of H. parasuis isolates recovered from diseased pigs has often been used as a major tool for disease control. Considering these factors, the present study was designed to characterize the genetic variability of H. parasuis field isolates within and between serovar groups.
