SEROLOGIC DETECTION OF AN ACUTE PRRSV OUTBREAK PRIOR TO CLINICAL SIGNS

The onset of an acute outbreak of PRRS is typically first identified by the appearance of clinical symptoms in the breeding herd. However, the ability to identify the introduction of PRRSV into a naive herd prior to clinical signs would be of great benefit in controlling further transmission of the virus to other stages or sites of production. This case report describes a herd in which PRRS was first identified serologically prior to clinical signs.
