We report on the deposition of antireflection coatings (AR) by sol-gel process for its utilisation on textured monocrystalline silicon solar cells. TiO_2 thin films were obtained by the dip coating method on textured monocrystalline silicon solar cells. The solutions were prepared by mixing tetrabutyl ortotitanate, distilled water and ethanol, using an amine compound to control the hydrolysis reaction. The sintering of the samples was performed in the 500°-800°C range, by using a heating rate of 30°C/min. The transformation of TiO_2 gel into crystalline form was investigated by thermogravimetry (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA) and the structural properties of the films were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs and electron diffraction patterns. Anatase phase was obtained after sintering the samples at 500°C for 30 min. The optical measurements showed very good antireflective properties being the fraction of photons absorbed by the cell 0.977 after the sol-gel AR deposition. Monocrystalline silicon solar cells covered with the sol-gel AR coatings were fabricated and the parameters were measured.
