APPLYING THE COST-BENEFIT METHOD IN MAKING A PROGRAM FOR THE ERADICATION OF LEPTOSPIROSIS ON A PIG FARM

On the investigated farm, pig leptospirosis is epizootiological in character. The disease was present due to bad technological construction solutions and to the constant presence of rodents from family Rattus, Mus and Apodermus. Diagnostic testing ofblood sera in breeding heads proved a certain number of positive heads. Measures of sanitation and eradication, especially systematic deratisation, were not performed on the farm. Disease caused a higher number of abortions, stillbirths of avital pigs, bad conception and prolonged service period in sows, reduced daily growth in fattening swines and increased needed quantity of food. The program for the eradication of disease, with defined actions, as well as financial investments tat may have be expected, was considered justified from the epizootiological and economic point of view, when the cost-benefit method is to be applied.
