The objective of this study was to determine evolution of minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of amoxicillin and trimethoprim/sulfadiazine combination against Streptococcus suis isolates according to an in vitro serial passage model previously described (2). Five strains of S. suis type 2 isolated in France during 1998 were tested. Isolates came from weaners or growers showing clinical signs and gross lesions of septicaemia. MICs of amoxicillin and trimethoprim/sulfadiazine combination against the 5 isolates were firstly determined using a microdilution broth method (3). For the trimethoprim/sulfadiazine combination a checkerboard design was used.
