Since 1918, Intravenous fluid infusion in the treatment of shock has been fundamental to the resuscitation of critically ill patients [1]. Restoration of volume deficit is essential to survival of patients with hypovolemia; however, despite the importance of fluid therapy, controversy still exists over the choice of crystalloids or colloids as the ideal resuscitation fluid.
