The embryonic development of the ventricular system is extremely complex and as a result congenital anomalies are observed extremely frequently. Therefore endoscopy appears suitable in the treatment of hydrocephalus or lesions of the ventricles. Since 1997, neuroendoscopic system Wolf is employed at the Dpt. of Neurosurgery, combined with the frame-based navigation system utilising software Stereoplan Plus or Praezis (Leibinger). CT navigation was used for the first cases (titanium frame Zamorano Dujowny), nowadays MRI - derived data (Siemens Symphony) are preferred (ceramic frame Leibinger). Data integration in the computer workstation Marconi creates presurgical virtual reconstruction. Intraoperative endoscopy updates the surgical picture.
