Radio-over-fiber (ROF) is gaining attention as a viable distribution means for wireless broadband access-This is due mainly to the fact that fiber is being installed well into the subscriber access layer thus motivating researchers to attack the serious problems relating to insertion loss, dynamic range and noise inherent in optical devices. Observing the individual issues ou the uplink and downlink configuration for ROF links we present theory and experimental results for ROF specific optical components that alleviate the aforementioned problems. Finally we overview plans for a ROF enabled residential wireless network that provides nomadic non-tine-of-site access.
