The requirements for mobile network user access of voice, video and data services have increased in last few years. Today there are a multitude of both wired and wireless delivery media for broadband access. The vision for 4G wireless systems is that all these different access technologies will share a common platform for communication, seamlessly internetworking with each other to provide ubiquitous broadband services.;The Fourth Generation mobile communication systems are expected to be a cost effective infrastructure, offering enhanced services and security compared to 3G systems. The 4G network will provide higher transmission rates, and guaranteed communications between the mobile devices, and are expected to provide a common platform which will provide better security, enhanced user interface, and real time services such as video streaming.;The 4G communication systems will provide a seamless roaming between different technologies and provide high speed data rate. If 4G is combined with different systems then there will be a proper utility of high data rate and mobility.;The 4G technology is an upcoming technology that will provides mobile wireless broadband services seamlessly at very high data rates. Today the 4G is the hottest topic in discussions among the telecommunication providers. It has an ability to outperform the DSL network. The objective of this report is to give an overview of architecture of 4G, its requirements and to compare the 4G competitors according to their technical features and predict the winner among those competitors.;This research project is a technology case study on 4G technology. The audience of the technology case study includes SUNYIT Telecommunication students and employees of Telecommunication companies who are willing to work on 4G background. This project provides the material that increases the knowledge level of audience. This case study will be based on student knowledge and requirement of Telecommunication companies. It will also contain a summary and analysis of all new development in this technology.;This report is divided in to four chapters to discuss about 4G technology and its competitors.;The introduction and evolution of mobile communications is presented in first part of chapter 1. After that the chapter introduces 4G Technology which will give reader an overview about 4G and its features. The later part of chapter presents a discussion on the technical requirements of 4G required for service provider, network terminal, mobile device, security and spectrum allocation. This chapter will give a rough understanding about technology requirements 4G which can help the reader to understand about technology in further discussion.;The technology overview of 4G in chapter 2 is very important from reader's point of view to get an idea about technologies going to be used in 4G network. The overview is divided in to five sections of Architecture of 4G, Multiple Access Technology, Smart antenna technique, handoff technology, call admission control technology. At the same time the chapter will discuss about network management system, MIMO and adaptive array technology.;The chapter 3 compares the related wireless technologies and helps in analyzing the winner of future development of 4G technology. In the first part of this chapter all three competitors overview are explained. Later the comparison between LTE, Mobile WiMAX and UMB is done in aspects of technical specifications, cost of deployment, time frame and performance. At the end of the chapter the discussion is mainly focuses on market scenario and SWOT analysis of 4G technology.;The chapter 4 addresses the challenges and issues of 4G technology deployment in the market. It gives an overview of challenges and solutions to overcome these challenges. Further the topic discuss about the future research and development of 4G technology. The reader is also presented with future applications that 4G technology will provide. In the conclusion, findings based on the discussions in chapter 2 and 3 are concluded in chapter 4. It should be noted that the description of architecture and configuration of 4G candidates is not a scope of this document. The description of the technical related items is explained in few sentences or in a figure.
