Biodegradation study of potassium calcium metaphosphate in the SBF and tris-buffer solution

Amorphous K{sub}2O added calcium metaphosphates were prepared from the melts by quenching. The amorphous CMP was heat-treated to obtain the crystalline K{sub}2O added calcium metaphosphates. Each CMP powder was soaked into tris-buffer solution and simulated body fluid (SRF) for 1 day to 30 days. The addition of K{sub}2O in amorphous and crystalline CMP increased the weight loss. However, the degradation of amorphous CMP was significantly faster than that of crystalline CMP. The deposition of calcium phosphate minerals was related to the dissolution of the CMP. There was almost no deposition of Ca-P minerals in crystalline CMP due to very slow degradation. The rate of the degradation and deposition of CMP is thus related to the addition of K{sub}2O and type of CMP.
