Brief histories of the development of cotton/synthetic fiber blended fabrics and the commercial development of flame resistant cotton fabrics are presented. The selection process by which cotton/nylon blend fabrics were chosen as the best approach is summarized. The paper then presents the fabric styles produced and their physical properties. Data are presented showing comparisons in flash fire performance and electrical arc exposures that illustrate performance advantages of the blended fabrics.
