In this paper a novel approach, called State Splitting, for including limited equipment connectivity in State-Task Network formulations is presented. In contrast to earlier formulation State Splitting does not increase the number of binary variables and thus is computationally less demanding. Furthermore, the new approach is more flexible than its predecessors as it allows merging and splitting of batches. Three alternative ways of formulating State Splitting are presented, discussed and their performance is tested on several problems using a wide variety of solvers.
