New complex compounds of Ni(Ⅱ) and Cu(Ⅱ) with 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde benzthiazolil hydrazone (HL~a) and salycilaldehyde benzthiazolil hydrazone (H_2L~b) have been synthetized and characterized by elemental and thermogravimetrical analysis, magnetic susceptibility, infrared, electronic and electronic paramagnetic resonance spectra. The EPR and the electronic spectra provide information about the stereochemistry around the metal ion. The experimental magnetic parameters and the energy of d-d transitions for the copper(Ⅱ) complexes have been used for estimating the nature of the chemical metal-ligand bond.
