REPOWERING THE MARGHERA LEVANTE POWER PLANT

Following the governmental decision to repower and to reclaim the Edison Termoelettrica petrochemical plant of Marghera Levante, near Venice, in order to increase the efficiency and to reduce emissions, Ansaldo Energia and Siemens KWU, joined in a Temporary Business Agreement with Ansaldo Energia as leader of the TBA, won the international bid announced by Edison Termoelettrica, to design, supply and install the power island, all the rotating machines and related mechanical and I&C equipment, to be joined to the remaining part (HRSG and refurbished steam turbine) of an overall combined cycle of 380 MW. The installed gas turbine is a V94.3A(2) supplied by Siemens KWU/Ansaldo Energia, with annular chamber technology, equipped with dry low NO{sub}x hybrid burners, fuelled with natural gas, thus achieving very low emission figures. The gas turbine is coupled to a Top Air generator of 300 MVA supplied by Ansaldo Energia, air cooled. Ansaldo Energia has been responsible also for design, supply, installation and commissioning of the complete power island. The design of the plant has been very much focused on obtaining very easy operation and maintenance.
