the adoption of ATC systems determines a higher level of safety. The utilization of ATC systems (as SCMT in Italy) can also reduce the operating costs. In fact, using SCMT, in Italy, it is possible to limit the number of the train drivers: it will not necessary any more the presence of two train drivers for all the trains. This aspect will be relevant in the reduction of a discount, called K2, that the infrastructure manager applies to the railways undertakings in relation to the oldness of the network.
