This paper investigate the possibility of utilizing material composites to improve performance of superconducting transmission lines and to explore novel device applications of composite striplines or microstrip lines. An electromagnetic field model of supereonducting composite striplines is first introduced, and a finite element method is then developed to analyze transmission line properties of superconducting striplines or microstrip lines with composite signal lines. Some numerical simulations show that it is possible to make use of composite Structures of the striplines to achieve not only good transmission properties, but also other device properties by properly combining material components and geometrical structures, depending on applications. An example of a switchable low-pass filter is presented to illustrate the possible use of the idea. Since this type of switchable devices are based on the field switching, they can be made to achieve extremely fast switching speed.
