This paper deals with the effects of different grades of nonoriented electrical steel on the total losses and the efficiency of induction motors. On basis of finite element calculations the iron losses are computed by means of a method taking into account harmonics of higher order in the stator and in the rotor as well as the influence of rotational magnetization and cutting edges. Two types of induction motors, a three-phase motor with a nominal power of 3kW and a single-phase motor with a nominal power of 84W, are examined.
