THE GENERALIZED GERASIMOV-DRELL-HEARN SUM OF THE NEUTRON AT LOW Q~2

The extraction of the generalized Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum for ~3He and the neutron in a Q~2 range between 0.1 GeV~2/c~2 and 1.0 GeV~2/c~2 will be discussed. Spin-dependent asymmetries and cross-sections were measured using the inclusive ~3He(e, e') reaction at incident beam energies up to about 5.1 GeV. The experiment was conducted in Hall A at Jefferson Lab using a newly developed polarized ~3He target in combination with a highly polarized electron beam.
