Reflective TFT-LCDs including a new type of color filter(C/F), which is made of photochromic cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) were prepared and characterized. The color coordinate, brightness and contrast ratio of the LCD were adjusted by controlling the reflection wavelength and bandwidth of the CLC C/F and maximizing its reflectance with only one chemical composition of the CLC mixture. The manufacturing process of the CLC C/F and the optical performance of the LCD including it will be presented in this paper.
