摘要

Some of the fractographic features of corrosion-fatigue crack propagation are reviewed. These features often provide critical evidence in identifying the mechanism by which a usually mildly aggressive environment accelerates fatigue propagation. This role of the environment can vary from increasing the amount of plastic deformation at the crack tip, thus permitting the crack to cross grain and phase boundaries more easily, to adsorbed or absorbed hydrogen producing a hydrogen-assisted cracking contribution to the fatigue cracking.
